The Ends Of The Earth LP on Broke Recordings CD 1 – Mixed by the Autobots CD 2 – Unmixed version CD 3 – The Best Of Broke This compilation is a monster of a selection from the Broke Recordings label, offering a selection of breakbeat carnage from the U.K.’s and New Zealand’s highest ranking DJ’s and producers of the genre. Broke Recording has always had its own unique sound in the genre, and here we have the best of it, packaged nicely into a DJ friendly and artistic release. CD 1 – Mixed by the Autobots As the head honchos of the label it is only right they take on the role as mixers of their own children. A highly listenable compilation, from the early filth of ‘Apocalypse’ applying fresh vocals over the top, through to funk driven ‘Fresh Air’ by Unbalanced Jack featuring Miss Bels, remixed by Affinity. By the time we reach track 16, it is time for some drum and bass before we depart. For followers of the Broke legacy this is a must have record offering all the best releases, and never giving up on the sound which makes it a wholly unique experience. As a fan of the Broke releases I wasn’t disappointed, too much, the sound is almost over played, may be my ears have become too accustomed to the sound, but it is a great selection, and often a familiar style just needs a bit of something different slotted in between. CD 2 offers 11 of the 19 tracks unmixed for the DJ’s pleasure, and in my opinion with the combination of CD 3 in your CD wallet, you pretty much have the best releases all in one well-presented package. Overall a good mix and good selection, if you like the Broke releases this is not to be missed. 4/5 CD 1 Track list: reviewer: TobyD |
