Carmen - For the record, this is Carmen - interviewing Producer/DJ VITAMIN E for NuBreaks Radio!
Carmen - So, tell me.. how did you come to the name VITAMIN E?
VITAMIN E - a friend of mine about 6 years ago had said the music that i create and the mixes that i did gave her energy and soothed her heart like
vitamin e, at the time i was going by a different name, and was having copyright issues with another artist, so decided to go with vitamin e and it
just stuck
Carmen - Soothing a persons heart and soul is something that a lot of producers wish to accomplish with their tunes. Is there a particular artist that
has done exactly that for you more so than anyone else?
VITAMIN E - Absolutely, over the years that i have been djing, I would say that I am huge fan of all artists and producers that have the same love for
music that i do, off the top of my head, I am a huge fan of Devine and Emily play, along with Ghosts in the Machine, Dynamix II, Kraftwerk,
DJ Magic Mike, and so many more.
Carmen - I can honestly say that every one of those artists are a favorite of mine as well
VITAMIN E - I am almost positive after doing this for 16 years, I bet i could be here for a lifetime naming all the artists i have come to love.
Carmen - So you mentioned you have been doing this for 16 years? What got you into wanting to mix music 1st off?
VITAMIN E - Wow, this is going to take us way back, basically though growing up I used to do a lot of traveling in the car, and would constantly be
listening the radio stations catching all the new jams. One of my biggest hobbies was collecting tapes and cd's of my favorite artists. When I was 15
my family had just moved from Merritt Island to Orlando,FL and at the time my mother had a friend who owned a skating rink in deland. She mentioned to
him that I had a wide selection of music and was looking for a job. The owner offered me a position as disc jockey on their Saturday and Sunday
afternoon sessions.
VITAMIN E - From that point, I basically started to collect vinyl of all the music that i had on tape and cd's. Went on to save my money up and bought
my first set of Technics that I still have in mint condition! And the rest is history.
Carmen - Good ol' skating rinks.. Now I bet you loved to skate didnt ya?
VITAMIN E - My entire life I have been involved in roller skating, and ironically I still am today.
Carmen - Well, how did you decide you wanted to start making music?
VITAMIN E - Ah, the producer finally came out of me when a buddy of mine had mentioned that Dynamix II was going to be performing at a local nightclub
here in Orlando. One of my all time favorite songs happened to be "Just give the DJ a Break" and was hoping to get to see them play the song. So along
I went, record in hand with a sharpee, video camera in the other, and came to find out that they would be doing a live performance. Before they went on
stage, I had the opportunity to meet both Scott and David and get their autographs, and then set up to film the performance.
VITAMIN E - What really was the hook line and sinker, was the energy that the crowd had when they went on stage to perform. OMG it was amazing, people
screaming so loud that they were losing their voices, and it was then that I knew that was exactly what I wanted, and I have not stopped since.
Carmen - So it's safe to say that the crowd is what feeds you at a performance?
VITAMIN E - ABSOLUTELY, my whole of purpose of producing music is for the fans and crowd that is screaming for more, that positive vibe, that energy is
like a drug that I as an artist feed off of, and it not only helps me, but drives me in becoming one of the greatest electro producers/performers of
all time.
Carmen - Well it seems you are well on your way
VITAMIN E - As long as their are people that love what I do and I have my family's support, that is all that I need and no one will stand in my way.
Carmen - Is there a particularly memorable place that you have played out at? Something that stands out that just blew your mind??
VITAMIN E - So far, I would have to say that my most memorable performance would have to be at the G-Bar in Tampa, Florida, the crowd was just
absolutely amazing, cheering and screaming, and they didn't want it to end.
Carmen - The crowds in Tampa are pretty energized for a good performance.. I have been witness to that.
VITAMIN E - I agree totally, Tampa is a great city and a lot of energy comes out of that town.
Carmen - Speaking of crowds and fans and what not.. I am almost positive that you have seen some crazy stuff going on in the scene, but have you ever
experienced anything 1st hand at a show?
VITAMIN E - LOL, absolutely, at one of my shows in Ybor City, there was a girl that wanted me to sign her chest, of course she was highly intoxicated
and didn't realize that my wife was standing right next to me, but I ended up just autographing her shirt instead.
Carmen - Sometimes people will do whatever it takes to get a piece of the artists they love and lust after.
VITAMIN E - LOL, I agree completely
Carmen - Has your career in the electronic music scene ever had any effect on your personal life.. negatively or positively?
VITAMIN E - Hmmm, I would say a little of both, as far Negative goes, the part I have a hard time explaining is when I have purchase a piece of equipment
that cost between $1,000 and $4,000. It's a hard pill to swallow for anyone especially when it takes a long time to pay for itself when you are first
starting off and making a name for yourself. On the other hand, the positive is that both myself and my family have seen and witnessed that I can make
money at what I do, it just takes time, and they are being patient!
Carmen - So they are 100% supportive?
VITAMIN E - Absolutely, my wife is my biggest fan, she goes to every single event with me, and helps me in more ways than anyone will ever know. Plus I
have an eight year old son that wants to be just like his daddy, and is working hard to learn so he can be a dj and music producer too.
Carmen - So, how did you get hooked up with OnDaMike Productions?
VITAMIN E - Oh man, well let's see this would have been about 2 or 3 years ago, basically at the time I was trying to find as many friends/listeners as
I could on myspace and I just happen to find Mike Sowards wife. She listened to some of my music and said that I should send some of my songs to her
husband to check out, and that he had his own record label. I mailed a cd to him and he called me up and asked me if I wanted to be a part of his label.
One of the most exciting days of my career!
Carmen - How many tracks have you released under the label?
VITAMIN E - Phew, so far I believe I have released 10 tracks so far. I have many more on the way though.
Carmen - You have a bunch of stuff up your sleeve for us eh?
VITAMIN E - Absolutely, our newest EP is entitled Nu School vs. Electro vol 2, and one of my newest tracks "Give them Hell" will be featured on it,
the release date is set for Thanksgiving day.
Carmen - I am sure everyone will be looking forward to that.
Carmen - Do you mix one particular genre or are you branched out into others as well?
VITAMIN E - When I dj, I mix everything from breakbeats, to electro, miami bass, freestyle, funk, nu school breaks, trance, and much more.
Carmen - What genre when producing?
VITAMIN E - As far as production goes, I mostly stick to Electro Bass, and Breakbeats
Carmen - Ok, earlier you mentioned how expensive equipment can be.. So I am going to ask the one question that probably gets asked about a million
times.. What do you work and play with?
VITAMIN E - Oh boy, well right now in my arsenal of equipment I work with, Korg Electribe, Microkorg, Roland MC 909, Korg DSS-1, Roland MV-8800, Roland
SH-201, Akai AX60 , Sennhiser 835 mic, and of course my Roland SVC-350
Carmen - A very extensive list.. Im sure you worked very hard to get every piece of it too.
VITAMIN E - Absolutely, didn't happen overnight, and has cost me a pretty penny, but I use every piece and they are essential in every way
Carmen - Well, what can we expect from VITAMIN E in the future? Any big plans?
VITAMIN E - With gods will, hoping a lot more live performances all around the country, right now teaming up with a bunch of artists for some
collaborations and a huge amount a tracks are on their way!

Internet radio is huge these days.. Any interest or plans in doing a show at all or have you ever done one before?

Absolutely, I believe that Ondamikeproductions, has set up a time slot on Nubreaks radio for a live show this coming sunday! I will be doing a live
