It's been quite a while since The Gulf Gate Project has unleashed a new original EP on the world, and this one has certainly been worth the wait. Production of Silicon Soul originally started back in December 2012 in the old GGP studio in Sarasota, FL. 2013 was a busy year for The Gulf Gate Project as they relocated the studio to the San Francisco Bay area and were forced to pause production of Silicon Soul for a few months. Production began again in July of 2013 and the track was finally completed. So what to expect? Well, first off, Silicon Soul features the vocals of R & B singer Al Waters. His vocals were initially recorded in the Sarasota studio, but the GGP boys had him return to their San Francisco studio for a second round of vocal recording. The vocals are silky smooth and really fit nicely in this breaks track. The bassline is tough but funky, and the breakdowns feature a lovely piano melody to accompany the vocals and add an extra dash of soul. Overall, another breakbeat journey with that signature Gulf Gate Project spin. Remix duties for Silicon Soul went to Run Riot and he dialed back the funk a bit and delivered an ultra high-energy peak time reworking. Crisp, clean production from a consummate professional.
