DOWNBEAT 040
Dom Almond returns to Downbeat after last year’s massive two part EP titled ‘We Don’t Give A F@#k’ This new single has a rolling, upbeat vibe that takes elements of funk, plod and tearout and seamlessly mixes them all together.
‘Original Selecta’ takes a steady ride into the heavier funk spectrum of Breakbeat. The tune has a massive sub-low while the punchy drums push things forward. Half way through the track, a melody enters the tune to create an uplifting mood, until you get karate chopped to the ear drums with a switch up of amen drums and tearout style bass action before the 2nd drop comes pounding back in.
‘The Shakedown’ has skippy, rolling drums along with some serious plod style morphing bass over a rolling, ultra thick sub. During the ride, there are nice patterns of melodic stabs and a slick breakdown section. The last drop comes in heavy with some very cool bleepy elements before the mix out. These tunes tweak and pulse big-time and will no doubt push the systems speaks to the max.
