Debonaire

Bio:
written by Miami bass historian: PappaWheelie

Our generation began with Funk, which later coexisted in the clubs with Disco, but then a revolution happened in the streets. As the 80's dawned, the Hip-Hop movement inspired Rap records and after the advent of affordable Drum Computers, Electro was born! South Florida, along with NY and LA, was one of three breeding grounds for Electro. As the novelty of early Rap records and breakdancing wore off in 1985, South Florida gave birth to a new style of music: Miami Bass.

Debonaire first made a mark in 1986 when founder Claudio Barrella joined the Florida Record Pool and became managed as a club DJ by Bo Crane of the fledgling Pandisc Records. Pandisc had just signed the legendary Maggotron and they needed a DJ. Hiring Claudio for the role, Pandisc released "Welcome to the Planet of Bass" in 1987, which largely featured Claudio's groundbreaking work. He followed this when he and rapper Tricky D constructed the timely track "Get Silly with the Muppet Bass". Although it may seem dated to young bucks today, during the height of 80's Hip-Hop, this was considered a classic. It caught the attention of former members of the band The Florida Players, an act from the renowned TK label. They released the song on their new Coomack Records, which in turn sparked a vision.

Claudio began to idealize Debonaire not just as a stage name, but as one of the pillars of golden era Miami Bass. Setting up Debonaire Records in early 1988, he and Tricky D came back stronger with "Take it to the Max", and an EP for the group Rock & Fizz. However, the next record would make history as it introduced new programming techniques by Claudio, as well as introducing the world to the celebrated rapper Breezy Beat MC. The resulting single, "Shake the Joint", was and is considered one of the top classics of the Miami Bass genre, and caused a great deal of attention for Debonaire Records. The success could've easily ended there.

After working further with Tricky D, Debonaire signed more acts and released more singles to a very warm response, but his next project would prove Debonaire to be a giant in the field. After Dynamix II left Bass Station Records and underwent a change in personnel in 1988, Claudio and founding Dynamix member Scratch-D joined forces and together in 1989 produced the classics "Bass Generator" and "Ignition", which remain among the cornerstones of Electro Bass globally.

One of the great mysteries surrounding Claudio since the early days of Debonaire Records is who or what is behind the record "Sonic Boom". The track was briefly released in the 90's under the group name Omega II and it connected Dynamix II, Breezy Beat MC, DXJ of Maggotron, and Claudio. This record was illegitimately released on Claudio's Showroom Records, a relative label to Debonaire Records, and became a global cult classic selling for hundreds of dollars worldwide through auctions, beyond anything known in the U.S. Since then, a mysterious Electro act has taken it upon themselves to make their version of the song, which confused the buying public. As a result, Debonaire was found to be in the center of one of the biggest controversies in Electro history, which is a testament to the strength of the production.

Since then, both Dynamix II and Breezy Beat MC have gone on to earn their status as titans in the trade while Claudio has continued forward in his own right. When the burgeoning new beat Techno sub-genre first was imported into Florida in the early 90s, Claudio spearheaded a project well before it morphed into the now known "Florida Breaks" scene. As the car audio Bass cottage-industry blossomed into a national phenomenon, Claudio fronted many projects successfully in that vein also. All of these ventures certainly proved to be forward thinking and thriving, but letting a legend become forgotten is to no one's advantage. As the golden era Miami Bass revival began picking up steam in the 2000's, Debonaire Records was one of the first two record labels to return to the scene that birthed it.

DJ 0045

Bio:
Never satisfied with the norm, 0045 has always gone his own way. He has continuously refused to be categorized, and has spent years defying convention by playing a mixture of house, breaks, techno, and everything in between. This unusual blend has allowed him to combine the best hard hitting sounds of last decade, with those of today. And he’s done it with no concern over where a track came from, just whether or not the crowd will dance to it. Now, after 11 years of dj’ing he has finally started writing tracks, and he’s doing it with that same disdain for convention. He’s writing everything from deep soulful grooves, to slamming hard electro tracks, to chill out and dubstep, using the same tripped out sounds, twisting leads, and hard banging bass that he has been playing for years. He already has tracks out on Cobalt Recording and Pure Trax, and has many more to come soon.

Captin Colorado

Bio:
Cap’n Colorado started his musical aspirations as a youngin’. His first vinyl experience was scratchin’ up his parents beloved Billy Joel “Piano Man.” With no idea what he was doing, the funky sounds that came from that Sanyo belt drive deck stuck in his head for years (as well as the parents scolding). Years later, after attending his first “rave” in the mid 90’s, the Cap’n knew what was to come. Moving to Portland, Oregon in 2000, the Cap’n started showing people what to expect. Taking what gigs came along, he found himself playing a weekly remix show at a local coffeeshop. Life brought the Cap’n back to Colorado and back to the Bruise Your Body Breaks Headquarters. He’s traveled the world in search of great music to bring to the masses, so that’s what you’ll be getting.

Great Scott

Bio:
Great Scott made his mark with his past two EPs; The Grand Conspiracy and Tarot - with The Grand Conspiracy EP receiving support on BBC radio and its track ‘Defcon’ being included on the new ‘LoveEvolution’ CD (San Francisco’s answer to Love Parade) along with many luminaries of dance music culture including Bassnectar, Lee Coombs, Miguel Migs, Hyper & Jhz, Chrostopher Lawrence and many more (see http://www.epiphyterecords.com/releases/...ion-compilation.html) and "Tarot" hitting #1 on the Addictech.com charts.

His latest single, "Safehouse," picked up by Scarcity Records - a label run by Romanian breaks all-star Mesmer that just launched but a month ago with a BANG - is sure to fire up the dancefloors with its hard-hitting squelchy glitchy synths and epic orchestrals, while the accompanying remixes from Stefan Anion, Mesmer, and Yreane fall nothing short of massive, epic, blistering and downright evil in their own rights as well.

Great Scott is the host of “MK Ultra,” on KTRU in Houston, is a regular on NSB Radio, has also been a resident DJ in China and was one of the NuSkoolBreaks radio DJs at WMC 2009. Recently Scott also founded and launched a new online radio show, Glitch. FM, which has fast become the centerpiece radio station for the emerging genres of wonky, glitch hop, lazer bass, turbo crunk, acid crunk and whatever else you’d like to call the new edgy instrumental hip hop and breakbeat scenes. Strongly inspired by the sounds of old-school big beat and breaks, including the likes of The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, and Rabbit In The Moon, Scott is constantly attempting to fuse the sounds of the old with that of the new, while trying to achieve a delicate balance between producing music that's meant to make people move, with that which inflicts various emotions and imagery.

Twinkdogg

Bio:
Since the age of 10 Clint "twinkdogg" Douglas has been drawn to broken beats. It all started with his introduction to rap and hip-hop in the late 80's with groups and artists from the likes of Nemisis, Big Daddy Kane, Fat Boys, MC Hammer and 2 Live Crew to name a few. While listening to rap and hip-hop Clint instantly began to notice what beats were superior to others and choose these as his prized tracks. After listening to rap and hip-hop for 9 years and being a master at beat recognition a dear friend of his by the name of Scott (DJ Cadep) introduced him to the thing we now know as "breakbeat" or "breaks." This introduction sprouted an undeniable force that would slowly grow over time into a passion and addiction.
Fueling his passion for breaks, Twinkdogg is now a key figure with the infamous internet breaks radio station/website Nubreaks.com ( http://nubreaks.com ) hosting "Warrior Breaks" every Wednesday Night from 9-11PM CST. Locally in Houston, TX you can catch Twinkdogg monthly at Coffee Groundz for the State Of Breaks ( http://stateofbreaks.com ) with partners Great Scott & Phylo or with fellow Krunk Ninjas El-Nino & TDBZ with their random "KRUNK" warehouse parties. He is also currently working with long time frined and producer DJ Cadep so be on the look out for future track releases under the moniker "Jigga Warriors" from this dynamic duo.
