Phil and Bren of Splitloop admit to exploring other genres when writing 'Pleasure Machine', the broadening of their horizons has had a profound influence on the Splitloop sound. "You can't be looking only to one genre to get inspiration for your music," reckons Bren. "That would just be a ridiculous feedback loop".

"We're at a stage where we really just wanted to make music we thought was really good and moving our sound forward, not worrying about what anyone else would think."

Dipping their toes into other styles of electronic music has certainly paid off for the guys. 'Pleasure Machine' has a velvety sheen, touching on modern sexy D. Ramirez-type electro-house, juddery Justice riddims, old skool electro, Plumpy breaks, bleepy Trickyesque bizness, speak 'n' spell robotica and a hell of a lot more. There's a consistency to their sound that glazes the whole album - sexy electronic dance music that'll be rocking floors from Brighton to Beijing, quite simply 'Pleasure Machine' is bang on the money.

Accumulating all the tools to soundtrack a fantastic night out, the Splitloop guys have set the dials for pleasure. The touring that's going to be accompanying this album is going to bring them into contact with a whole new set of pleasure-seeking individuals.

Bren is philosophical about their early career. "Our first studio had a broken toilet, so everything smelled like piss," he remembers. "We could never afford monitors 'cos all our money went on pills and beer. As soon as we gave up pills, we bought monitors and got signed."

Naming themselves after one of their first productions together, the guys started making a name for themselves and in no time at all, were signed to Krafty Kuts' leading breaks label Against The Grain. With a artist roster that also boasts artists such as The Freestylers, Deekline & Wizard, Ed Solo & Skool Of Thought, the guys new they were seriously starting to make waves.

Active Image
Album out –end June 2008
30th  May * ALBUM LAUNCH PARTY *@ Herbal (London) with Rico Tubbs,
Atomic Hooligan (Botchit), Soul Of  Man (Finger Lickin’), Lady Waks, Blende Lot 49 & more!

Take a little bit of Baltimore, add a dash of rave stabs, throw in a little hip hop sample here and there, then allow to cook for 6 minutes with a massive bassline, and what do you get? This amazing LP that will blow you mind.

Rico Tubbs - The finish lion of everything funk is here and he aint going anywhere till you bow at his overly skin tight jeans and kiss his ethically sound sneakers…. and this is exactly what you will be doing when you hear his brand new album Knuckle Sandwich on Menu Music. Featuring the club monster Gangsters, this full length player is packed to the brim with full on monster mashout’s.

Menu could not keep it down any longer and with unprecedented early support from Tayo, Krafty Kuts, Soul Of Man, Si Begg, Deekline, Stanton Warriors, Switch, Crookers, Drop The Lime & Sinden you know this is going to be special (especially when half the DJs are on our case for the tracks!)Rico’s sound has developed over time with all his releases on Menu, and various other releases & remix’s on other labels. But we think that he’s hit the nail firmly on the head with this set. Bottom heavy UK garage influenced bass lines, hip hop samples, cracking snares, and Baltimore grooves. Rico pulls it all in to make a heady album for your feet. Not many modern breaks Producers can call on the amount of influences Rico has for his album.Simply put, this is his finest work to date and we are proud to bring it to you as Menu’s first ever full length album release. You won’t be disappointed.

Atomic Hooligan ‘Sex, Drugs & Blah Blah Blah’

Label: BOTCHIT & SCARPER

Rel Date: March 17th 08

Cat No: Bos2LP027

Sex, Drugs & Balh Blah Blah is a step beyond their last album, with new vocalists, new live instrumentation, and a new outlook on music, the Hooligans have outdone themselves again.
Their sophomore album see's the return of long time Hooligan collaborator, Justine Berry of Hey Gravity, along with new vocalist to the camp & future superstar, Elmo Jones of the Furies. The lads have also employed a couple of Hip Hop legends from both sides of the Atlantic. DJ Premier collaborator, Afu Ra opens the album with an explosive performance to set the mood, then later on in the set, UK don Genasis Elijah, rips it up like only this rhyme animal can. The album also features Playboy -UK Cyber girl of the Year Alex Sim-Wise, turning in a trashy electro style chant for the masses.
The Hooligans have gone deeper with their production on this set. They pulled in string arranger Jote Osahn , well known for her work with the Gorillaz & Root Manuva, along with an entire brass section to round their sound out.

And if that wasn’t enough Christin Ward (DC Comics) has whipped up some of his amazing, twisted artwork to package the whole thing.
This big melting pot of talent really does make for one tasty musical stew by anyone’s standards

‘Beats, Rhymes and Conflicts’ by The Wrongstar Society

Release Date – June  30th 2008

"The Wrongstars are trouble with a capital T. These boys have finally made a stand against all this bullsh*t music that’s out there at the moment and it feels good. Youcan tell they have actually lived the fights, the trouble and the carnage. If theycancarry this on without getting arrested and fucking everything up...we could be looking at a very exciting band" - NME.com

After Rehab, court cases, a near prison sentence, breaking ankles, nearly splitting up after our first gig due to a huge argument, a divorce, fights and 250 hours community service... The Wrongstar Society are proud to announce the release of their album ‘Beats, Rhymes and Conflicts’.

The Wrongstar society are a live 5 piece band / DJ/ electronic production hoodlum out fit topped off with cheeky bandito voxpop, boeing-powered guitar lines and OTT bass deformation.

The Society consists of Paul Era, Bass Invada, MC Mooretime, Dirty D and ESQ. We met in a studio by chance back in late 2006 and after soon finding out that we had a shared interest in general hooliganism we decided to make a tune. That said tune evolved into the double CD album you now have in your hands. The Wrongstars set off on their World Tour in Dec 07 and since then have already played with The Stanton Warriors, Deekline and Wizard, Atomic Hooligan, Jay Cunning (Kiss FM) and Leeroy Thornhill (Prodigy). On top of that they have also done guest mixes on Kiss FM and Galaxy and had plays on Radio 1 and are in the process of setting up there own night in London.

THIS ALBUM IS DESIGNED TO KICK THE SH*T OUT OF ALL THE GENERIC DANCE MUSIC CURRENTLY SUFFOCATING THIS INDUSTRY. FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE GO TO WWW.MYSPACE.COM/THE_WRONGSTARS OVER AND OUT!

ILS is no stranger to our Breaks scene, with tons of releases on labels such as Marine Parade, Distinctive, his own ILS Music imprint, Botchit and Scarper and many others, his unique style and sound has captivated many a music fans across the globe.  He has taken time out of his busy schedule to meet up with me and the NuBreaks.com world!
Viro: First and foremost, thanks for taking the time out to meet with us!  Why don't you tell the world a little something about ILS that not many people know?

ILS: Hmm, well I regularly enroll into random college courses, because i feel i missed out on school , i was high on lsd most of the time, so now i am trying to compensate for my wasted and mispent youth

Viro: That seems to work LOL!
Viro: As some might know, you have a new album that has been completed, what can you tell us about this album? The style, direction, inspiration?

ILS: The album is pretty dark, based on my experiences in the music business and life in general !

Viro: When can we expect your new album in shelves? And on what label?

ILS: Hopefully the album (Paranoid Prophets) will be out in October 2007 on Botchit and Scarper Records. It is great to have label mates like Atomic Hooligan and Deekline on team

Viro: Sure is...it's a lethal combination
Viro: When can we expect some new vinyl or digital releases from the new album? (Singles etc...)
ILS: Singles will start around the same time as the album release, I left it to the last minute to sign this album, so the label didn't get much time to pull it all together

What is Breakbeat

Breakbeat (sometimes breakbeats or breaks) is a term used to describe a collection of sub-genres of electronic music, usually characterized by the use of a non-straightened 4/4 drum pattern (as opposed to the steady beat of house or trance). These rhythms may be characterised by their intensive use of syncopation and polyrhythms.

History

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, hip-hop DJs (starting with Kool DJ Herc) began using several breaks (the part of a funk or jazz song in which the music "breaks" to let the rhythm section play unaccompanied) in a row to use as the rhythmic basis for hip-hop songs. Kool DJ Herc's breakbeat style was to play the same record on two turntables and play the break repeatedly by alternating between the two records (letting one play while spinning the second record back to the beginning of the break). This style was copied and improved upon by early hip hop DJs Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Wizard Theodore. This style was extremely popular in clubs and dance halls because the extended breakbeat was the perfect backdrop for breakdancers to show their skills.

In recent times, the term breakbeat has become synonymous with the many genres of breaks music which have become popular within the global dance music scene, including big beat, nu skool breaks and progressive breaks. DJs from a variety of genres, including house and techno, work breaks tracks into their sets. This may occur because the tempo of breaks tracks (ranging from 110 to 150 beats per minute) means they can be readily mixed with these genres, whereas the comparatively fast speed of jungle and drum and bass (160-180 bpm) may have restricted the utility of these subgenres to DJs playing slower-tempo music. Some artists well known for breakbeat include The Freestylers, NAPT, Dj Loopy, Pendulum, Soul Of Man, Dj deekline and wizard, Ben & Lex, The Breakfastaz, Ctrl Z, Stanton Warriors, Dj Icey, Freq Nasty and Plump DJ's.

Breakbeats are used in many hip hop, rap, jungle, and hardcore songs, and can also be heard in other music, from popular music to background music in car and jean commercials on the radio or TV.
